First Trip to Asia

Dear Ewan,

On January 22, you and mom took a month long trip fo to Hong Kong. Mainly to visit your 婆婆, 公公 and , 支支. It is the first time for you to travel to such a far place. And because I went to Hong Kong recently , I did not go with you guys. So it was just you and Mom. Here are some of the highlights of that trip from my perspective.

Getting there:

It is worth mentioning that this trip was supposed to take place in December. But our family taught covid and had to delay until January. 

Month prior, mom already read tons of blogs about traveling with kids. She also systematically started making a packing list and reading up on health policies when entering Hong Kong. This trip was months in the making. Luck seems to be on our side since most Covid restrictions were shed.

On the Sunday that you left, it was tough for me. After I said the many goodbyes to you and Mom at the security checkpoint, I walk back to my car feeling empty and depressed. Things slowly got better.

In the meantime, you were tearing it up on the plane. Watching as much screen as you wish and you have a month of vacation coming up. The flight was uneventful. There was another kid that screamed and kept you up a bit. Other than that, the 14 hour plane ride was good.



There was a great stretch of weather on HK - sunny and warm. Mom took you out to playground, grocery shopping right away.

Toys toys and more toys:

One of your favorite things about your trip was all the nice toys you received either as a gift or something mom bought for you (usually for being good). You enjoyed the 深水埗 area where there is a street full of toys of all kinds and sizes. Toys was one of my favorite things about HK as well. And as you know, one of my most favorite toys, the transformer, was purchased in HK to me from my late Grandma.

Disney & Ocean Park:

Mom made sure that she brings you to as many theme parks as possible during your stay in HK. At Disney, you fully experienced all the happiest place on earth has to offer. From meeting your favorite Marvel characters , to rides, to the hotel to fireworks and the nice restaurant for parades, you did it all. I think you are are somewhat addicted to Disney as you ask to go again on our cruise later this year.

Brampton Tournament 2026

Hi Ewan, It's been almost a year since your last tournament. Your Sensei pushed you to compete in this Brampton one to get back into the swing of things.  Today is the day. We all woke up late except Ma. But made it on time. When we got here, you were quite nervous. Frozen even. You kept staring at the tatamis in the warm up mat. I kept asking you to warm up yet you just did you Kata. Maybe you were already warm or maybe you were terrified. Couldn't really tell. I think you lost some valuable time there. [ warming up.] Anyhoo, not even 10 minutes later, it was time to head to tatami 2 to line up.  You did five matches and executed well. Your nerve slowly vanished though you did get nervous on the last match. You won most of the matches but kept losing to this kid named Mateo from York dojo. Swimming

Hello LL, This was our first March break and we were not quite ready for it. I took 3 days off work since mom has exams during this time. On the Friday before, I got a call Uncle Gabriel and I never get a call from him (I thought he was in some kind of trouble). But actually, he wanted to see if I'd like to get a few nights of hotel that he cannot use. After a bit of consideration, we said yes. The hotel is literally 4 minutes drive from our home. With mom having to stay home to study, I took you over to the hotel to swim 3 days in a roll. You hung onto a noodle and kicked around the pool with me spotting slightly. You were totally relaxed and in the zone for a few moments. And that's why I wanted. Don't want you to be afraid of the water. I want you to associate good thoughts and memories about swimming. After swimming, we'd go up to the room to snack and watch TV. It was pretty nice. We could've stayed overnight at the hotel but didn't.  Home is just that much...
